RYA Nationals -Day 2 – Results and Round up

Welcome to the round up of Day 2 of the RYA Youth Nationals.

The stand-out performance of the day was a Race 4 16th (out of 28 boats) in the Blue Fleet for the new 29er pairing of Morven Wood and Jamie McKeating. Coupled with a 22nd in Race 5, this moved them up to 49th in the fleet.

Christine Wood continued her close battle with Coco Barrett, recording a 2nd and 3rd compared to a 1st and 4th. Both remain on equal points with Coco still leading on countback.

Ellen Barbour recorded a 5th and a 10th to end the day in 8th and Catie Warburton continued her consistent results to end the day in 14th.

In the ILCA7s, Finley Dickinson continues to lead. In the Irish/Scottish team, Gordon Cogan Sivarajan had an excellent day, with a 9th and 3rd, finishing the day in 7th position. Scott Forbes ended the day in 10th with Finley Tulett in 13th following a 7th in Race 4.

In the ILCA6 Men, Tom Mitchell had an excellent day moving up to 2nd in the fleet following a 4th and a 7th. Alex Cogan Sivarajan, in his first event with an ILCA 6 rig recorded a 26th and a 46th after being unable to compete on day 1.

All in all, a good day!

RYA Youth Nationals – Day 1 Scottish/Irish team report

A great day on the water today with steady winds dropping towards the end of racing.

Without doubt Christine Wood was the best of the bunch, with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the ILCA 6 women to finish the day 2nd on countback. She was headed by Coco Barrett, with two 1sts and a 4th. Ellen Barbour, the Irish sailor finished the day in 9th with Catie Warburton, in her first race for over a year, sitting in a steady 15th.

In the ILCA 7s, Finlay Tulett, (13th) sailing in his first National event, and Gordon Cogan Sivarajan (10th) both showed consistency with two 12ths and an 11th and a 9th, 11th and 12th respectively. They were both headed by Scott Forbes in 6th.

In the ILCA 6 men, Tom Mitchell had a great start to the day with a 2nd in the first race, finishing the day in 7th overall.

In the 29ers event the pairing of Morven Wood and Jamie McKeating were sitting in 50th place out of the 57 boats that took to the water. A good result for their first national regatta together.

Something old, something new……..

We are in Plymouth this week for the RYA Youth Nationals and went out for a training sail today.

Proud owner of a new ILCA 7 supplied by SailingFast

I launched my new boat (219069) for the first time, in winds near the top end. I was sailing alongside my old boat (195779) which has been borrowed by Ellen Barbour from the Irish Squad, and the blue boat belongs to another Scottish sailor, Catie Warburton.

We had a great sail, bring on the championships! My first national event in a Standard Rig.

Laser Radial Youth European Championships

Finlay has just applied to compete in the Laser Radial Youth European Championships, which are in Kastela, Croatia in 2021.

Hopefully, the travel restrictions in Scotland will be lifted by then allowing us to travel and Finlay to compete.

Thank you as ever to IYST for making this possible.
